Design:
The Kraken Pre amp MkII has four line level inputs and two tape
loops. The MkI had only five inputs in total (four line and one loop). The additional input gave
greater flexibility and, in both designs, one of these could be upgraded with a plug in MM
phono stage.
Other changes between Mk1
and 2 include the use of a fashionable blue power LED and a thicker,
contemporarily styled, aluminium front panel, along with the inclusion
of the distinctive heat-sync fins which, whilst unneccessary for the
pre-amp design, created a superior style match with the
Kraken Power
Amplifier and other Kraken series
components.
The pre amp was designed to
be used alongside the Kraken
Power Amplifier.
Tonally the original Kraken
amplifiers has a "softer" sound - the high frequency roll-off was set to
come in earlier - compared with the later model. |
